Love will terrace apart
Terrace season is upon us. And what better way to celebrate than with a walk through this week’s apartments that have gone into contract with noteworthy outdoor spaces? First on that list: the penthouse at 21 E. 26th St. (The Whitman), where spring has finally sprung after many years of listing winter. Last priced at $24.99M, the 6500-SF duplex has four terraces with Madison Square Park views.
Downtown and a couple of rungs downmarket, PH7 at 93 Worth St. features one 640-SF terrace and was priced at $7.995M. The ultra-modern unit, which also did hard time on the market, sits atop a 91-unit converted condo building that features a common, panoramic rooftop in its suite of amenities.
Last but not least, Unit 55 at 2 Fifth Ave., the 353-unit mid-century behemoth north of Washington Square Park. The 3-bedroom features a very large terrace (36’ x 36’) above a very small kitchen (11’ x 8’). The buyer also gets a “charming cottage-style structure” on the terrace floor.

DOREEN WINKLER • founder • Orange Glou
Neighborhood you live in: Lower East Side
It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
I’m a sommelier and obsessed with orange wine. In 2019, I launched Orange Glou as an orange wine subscription, and then, opened a store on the LES dedicated to skin contact wines in 2021. The year after, I launched the Orange Glou Fair with over 100 orange wines, and we held two fairs in NYC in 2022 and 2023. I’m very excited to launch the first Los Angeles fair this weekend with orange wines from the West Coast and Republic of Georgia.
I work a lot. I get a lot of in-store business happening over the weekend, so I'm usually rolling into the weekend making sure we’re ready for our Friday tastings and busy Saturdays and Sundays. If by Monday I have my shipments in order for the Orange Glou Wine Club, I may give myself a half-day off.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
You can usually find me supporting my neighbors on the Lower East Side. I love going to Somm Time and Skin Contact, great wine bars that usually call me in whenever I’m walking by. My friends call me out on my obsession with Wu’s Wonton King by Seward Park, but I can’t get enough of their king crab, spiced lamb chops, garlic crusted chicken, and lobster noodles, and usually, we have the best wine — because they’re byo, and I bring it! I just got to try Nami Nori on Carmine Street with my friend, and we really enjoyed the temaki, especially the one with Hokkaido uni. We also loved their spicy tuna dip. The next place I need to try is Dame in Greenwich Village.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I host a lot of events at the Orange Glou store, so hopefully I'm bringing some culture and leisure to everyone else! We just had an amazing pop-up series with Allora Pasta Co., where we paired handmade pastas with some great orange wines. And we also just brought in the winemakers from Cantina Giardino, a natural winery in Italy, for a deep-dive tasting event.
Any weekend getaways?
A lot of my traveling is, you guessed it, wine related. I just came back from Chicago where I attended the Third-Coast SOIF, an annual event celebrating natural wines along with beers and ciders. I did get to check out some great restaurants while I was there, though. I really enjoyed Kasama for breakfast. It’s a Michelin-starred, fine-dining Filipino restaurant, but it also has some excellent baked goods and Filipino breakfast foods. Lunch was at Boeufhaus, where I had an amazing French onion soup and shared the savory short rib beignets with jus.
What was your last great vacation?
All of my trips are a combination of work and play but I always make sure to stop somewhere fun. When I go to France for the Le Dive wine fair, I add a stopover in Paris. I always stop in Clamato for razor clams and then get a glass of wine around the corner at Septime La Cave. Bistrot Paul Bert has an amazing souffle you shouldn’t miss. I also love the delicious, beautiful pastries from Cedric Grolet’s shop near the Opéra.
In Los Angeles this weekend, I’m looking forward to checking out some new places like Ètra and Bowery Bungalow in Silver Lake. Jon & Vinny’s is a standby, of course. And in August, I’m going to the Czech Republic for the harvest season and to visit many, many wineries in Europe.

At play in the fields of the lord
Our fine dining correspondent Lee Pitofsky, aka @finediningnyc on Instagram, has dined at Thomas Keller’s Per Se 50 times. He’s also a regular at California’s best restaurants. Here, a trio of his dispatches from a recent Napa/Sonoma trip to check in on old friends, including Keller’s The French Laundry:
SPOOL KIDS: True to its name, SingleThread Farm in Sonoma remains one of the most singular restaurants in the country. Combining California bounty from their farm with Japanese influences and kaiseki-style cuisine, a recent menu delivered one of my best meals there yet. It began with a bang (as is the norm here) with hasune, their version of canapés, already covering the table as we were seated. From there, highlights included kanpachi flown in from Japan (with Koshihikari rice), salted cherry leaf blossom, cherry boshi, sakura gelée, and sea lettuce. Then, duck liver parfait with mizuna, Badger Flame beets, orange, walnut, and pain d’epice showcased a most seamless combination of richness and ingredient-driven cuisine. All this, served alongside one of America’s best wine lists.
→ SingleThread Farm (Healdsburg, CA) • 131 North St • Daily 4-830p • $475 per.
WRINKLE-RESISTANT: The French Laundry continues to deliver world-class service and perfectly executed California-influenced French cuisine. To do it right, begin with Champagne in the courtyard and end with vintage spirits — and, if you’re inclined, cigars (in the outdoor cigar lounge, of course). In between, expect all the caviar, truffles, and Wagyu one can handle. A highlight from my most recent visit: A5 Miyazaki “Wellington,” Japanese Wagyu beef enrobed in brioche with black trumpet mushroom "tapenade," caramelized cipollini onion, garden watercress and "sauce Bordelaise.” Simply unforgettable.
→ The French Laundry (Yountville, CA) • 6640 Washington St • Daily 4-8p • $390 per.
THE SIMPLE THINGS: A Napa Valley standby from chef Chris Kostow of the Restaurant at Meadowood, The Charter Oak (above) is always my first stop for lunch in wine country. It’s the simplicity that always stands out. Begin with raw vegetables from the 3.5-acre farm with fermented soy dip — a crudité without equal. Grilled medjool dates with ham garum, walnut oil, and sea salt is another must. And the cheeseburger is the best in the valley. A side note: While both cocktails and wine are top notch, they offer free corkage for your first bottle (and $50 thereafter). –Lee Pitofsky
