Ketchy ketchy, shuby shuby tonight
BARS & RESTAURANTS • First Round
The Skinny: A sceney, 7,000-square-foot, bi-level restaurant and lounge in the former Gran Tivoli space from Jamie Mulholland of Montauk’s Surf Lodge fame.
The Vibe: Island vibes, with rattan chairs and leafy surroundings, including a large tree in the middle of the dining room. Fashion photographer Dimitri Hyacinthe was the design lead, and Rohan Marley helped to instill some irie in the place, which is named after a Peter Tosh song.
The Food: Also leafy. Roughly half of culinary director Sean Olnowich’s dishes are plant-based, including charred cauliflower with coconut yogurt, and roasted delicata squash with whipped lemon ricotta. For carnivores: a top-notch chicken, encrusted with olives, raisins, dates, and dried apricots, and a satisfying, plus-sized prime rib with shallot butter.
The Drinks: Cocktails are classic and well-shaken. Colorful juice blends highlight a strong non-alc game.
The Verdict: Peter Tosh would be confused, then proud, then satiated. –David Farley
