Neighborhood you work in: Dumbo
It’s Tuesday morning, where are you working?
If I'm sourcing stones, checking on progress of a piece, or starting production on a new piece, I can be found happily ensconced within the chaos of Manhattan’s 47th St. Diamond District. If I'm designing or meeting with a client for a custom piece, I’ll most likely be at my home office in Dumbo, supervised by my dog Eddie. Today, I’m home, currently diving into my third (one too many) cup of Partners coffee, and second client design session of the day.
What’s the Tuesday morning scene at your workplace?
Either pure chaos or total calm, and I love both equally. If I'm in Dumbo, I’m playing music, my notebooks and pencils spread out just about everywhere. If I'm in the Diamond District, it's a totally different pace and purpose. There is nothing quite like finding the perfect stone for someone, or submitting a design for a special bespoke piece, and I fall completely in love every time I get back the final version of new pieces for my line.
What’s on the agenda for today?
I've been doing a lot of ear cuffs lately, which are super fun, and I absolutely love how they’re another fabulous opportunity to wear more gems. They can totally stand alone, but I wear them piled on with my mini jeweled hoops and ear charms. The way I design my pieces to work together, it's never too much. My goal is for each piece to be super-wearable, but filled with gems, and not lacking any of the qualities that would’ve previously made us save something for a special occasion.
Also on my agenda is reviewing new pieces of my Bittersweet collection (here’s a sneak peek). Bittersweet started with channel set jeweled huggies with removable charms that look like exotic fruit slices. I love wearing them both with and without the charms.
What’s for lunch?
Today, I'm home, it's cold and gray, and I usually kind of get into a groove so I like to eat while I'm working, which makes it especially wonderful having a chef in the house. So basically, lunch is whatever my boyfriend makes. But if I go out, I like to go to Mimi Cheng’s in Brooklyn Heights for dumplings.
I also love Chez Moi on Atlantic for brunch or dinner. It’s always so good, as welcoming as eating at home. Another neighborhood staple for me is Bohemian Bar. They have really fun snacks and drinks — the flavors are as beautiful as the restaurant itself. And finally, Rucola is cozy, and there’s always a good crowd.
Any plans tonight?
Sip & Guzzle is the destination for tonight. I intend to try just about everything on the menu. I'm an early bird, so it's early out and early back home, and then I’ll probably continue catching up on the new season of “True Detective,” which is incredible.
